Understanding Condo Insurance | Is Condo Insurance Necessary | What is Condo Insurance

Condominium insurance is often misunderstood, and for good reason. Most condominium owners have no idea what they are responsible for in the event of calamities such as a fire, flood, windstorm or other disasters that causes damage to either the common areas of the building and/or to their individual unit. Typically, owners are protected under two insurance policies: a master policy for the condo association and an individual, or HO-6, policy. The confusion arises over what each policy covers and the potential for missed coverage gaps.

Condo associations have master policies that cover the property, common areas, and outside/physical structure of your condo. While the Condo insurance (or condominium insurance) covers your belongings, upgrades to your unit (new granite countertops, etc.), injuries at your place, certain lawsuits against you, etc. Without condo insurance, you’d have no coverage for these things.
